TeamMates receives $25,000 from Pinnacle Bank Championship Golf Tournament

Omaha, Neb. – The inaugural success of the 2017 Pinnacle Bank Championship has resulted in a $25,000 donation to the TeamMates Mentoring Program, founded by Tom and Nancy Osborne.

“With the help of our sponsors, volunteers and community, we are able to donate $25,000 to the TeamMates Mentoring Program,” according to Brad Strittmatter, Chairman of Support Nebraska, The Pinnacle Bank Championship’s host organization. He added, “We are thrilled to see our hard work benefitting children throughout Nebraska.”

Sarah Waldman, Executive Director of TeamMates, echoed Strittmatter’s sentiments, stating “This donation will allow us to assist many children in our program by getting youth excited about academics and their own potential.”

The weeklong Korn Ferry Tour brought professional golf back to Nebraska after a three-year absence. More than 37,000 spectators attended The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Heartland Chevy Dealers held at The Club at Indian Creek, July 17th through the 23rd. There were 156 professional golfers from around the world that participated in the tournament which was organized with 104 Community Sponsors and Partners.

“We are proud to be involved with a great event that brings our community and state together. We had over 500 volunteers help make the tournament a success,” said Marc Hock, President of Pinnacle Bank. “We are also thankful to have the support of so many wonderful sponsors that allow us to make this donation and look forward to increased donations as the tournament grows.”

The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Heartland Chevy returns in 2018 from July 16th to 22nd at The Club at Indian Creek, according to Tournament Director Jessica Brabec who added, “We are excited to announce TeamMates will remain our benefiting charity for the 2018 Pinnacle Bank Championship. Their commitment to kids across the state is in line with the tournament’s goals of giving back to our communities.”

TeamMates Mentoring Program began in 1991 with the vision of University of Nebraska Head Football Coach Tom Osborne and his wife Nancy. Coach Osborne felt that the athletes in his program could make an impact on the middle school students, and twenty-two football players began meeting with middle school students in the Lincoln Public Schools. Of the 22 original mentees, 21 went on to graduate from high school while one left school early to pursue a successful Motocross career. Eighteen of the original mentees also obtained some form of post-secondary education.

The TeamMates Mentoring Program was formalized statewide in 1998 with 12 chapters and 441 mentor/mentee matches. Since then, TeamMates has steadily grown to over 140 chapters. In the past school year, TeamMates served 8,000 youth through partnerships with local school districts. TeamMates now has chapters throughout Nebraska and Iowa and recently opened its first chapters in Kansas and Wyoming.
