The Pinnacle Bank Championship Exemptions Are Set

Four Nebraska natives secure their spots in The Pinnacle Bank Championship

The Pinnacle Bank Championship exemptions have been set, which include four Nebraskans. Noah Hofman from McCook and Carson Schaake from Omaha round out the two restricted exemptions. Luke Kluver, a native of Norfolk, Nebraska, won the Indian Creek Invitational to earn his exemption into the 2023 Pinnacle Bank Championship. This qualification comes with some excitement, as the Nebraska native is the first to earn an exemption into the Pinnacle Bank Championship since 2020. Nate Vontz, a Lincoln native, rounds out the exemptions after winning the Nebraska Qualifier on Monday, July 17.

This exciting opportunity will allow for these four players to compete at the highest level in the state. Kluver, a redshirt senior for the Oklahoma Sooners, has had plenty of experience at Indian Creek in the past few weeks, as he shot a 65 in the first round of play and a 67 in the second. Besides his recent play, Kluver has competed in The Pinnacle Bank Championship twice before.

“I’m just really excited, golf is a game of patience and I’ve been patient a long time now. There were several struggles throughout the year, and I’m really excited to get another chance in Omaha where there is a bunch of support from family and friends. Just couldn’t be more excited to be here in early August,” said Kluver when asked about how it felt to earn his spot in The Pinnacle Bank Championship.

Vontz, a Creighton alumnus, shot six under to win the Nebraska Qualifier and earn a spot in the 2023 Pinnacle Bank Championship. “I’m looking forward to this opportunity and hope to use this as a way to kick-start my professional career,” said Vontz.

Hofman, a pro in his third year and graduate of Ottowa University of Arizona, was given the restricted exemption. Rounding out the board is Schaake, a University of Iowa graduate, who has previously competed on the Korn Ferry Tour. Both Hofman and Schaake earned their conditional status after making it to the final stage of Q-School, otherwise known as qualifying school.

All four of these players will have their shot to compete for their share of the $1,000,000 purse for The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna and hosted at The Club at Indian Creek.

“Really grateful for the opportunity that Indian Creek offers,” said Kluver. “The Pinnacle Bank Championship and Indian Creek and the opportunities that they have for players to get a spot can jumpstart a career and that’s very important in the world of golf. It can only take a week for someone to really bust through and create opportunities for the rest of their life,” Kluver finished.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship, presented by Aetna, is a stop on the Korn Ferry Tour and will be held August 10–13 at The Club at Indian Creek. The Pinnacle Bank Championship’s prior events in Omaha produced names like Robby Shelton, Sam Ryder and Kris Ventura. The tournament includes charitable giving to children’s charities in the Omaha and Nebraska community that help fund education and mentoring programs for Nebraska youth.

Pinnacle Bank Championship Searching For Player Housing Volunteers

The Pinnacle Bank Championship Looking for Local Families To House Tournament Competitors

Omaha, known for its warm hospitality and vibrant community spirit, is once again gearing up to host the highly-anticipated Pinnacle Bank Championship. This annual event brings together talented golfers from all over the world, showcasing their skills as they fight for their spot on the PGA TOUR. To support this tournament, The Pinnacle Bank Championship is looking for volunteers interested in hosting a golfer.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship, scheduled for August 7th to August 13th, is not just a tournament; it’s a celebration of golf and a testament to Omaha’s deep-rooted passion for this historic sport. As the excitement builds, we invite the community to participate in this incredible experience by opening their homes to the talented athletes who will be competing for the championship on the fairways of The Club at Indian Creek.

Hosting a golfer for the Pinnacle Bank Championship is a unique chance for volunteers to immerse themselves in the tournament’s exciting atmosphere, forge lasting connections with the players and their families, and create memories they will cherish for a lifetime. By becoming a host, volunteers will have the chance to support these dedicated athletes and become an integral part of the Pinnacle Bank Championship.

John and Debbie Birge have housed players for the past two years and have been great advocates for the program. “Our daughter, Alexis [Boulos], got us into hosting. We had heard several stories overtime about how much fun it has been for host families,” said John Birge. “It’s been a very rewarding experience.”

Not only will volunteers witness firsthand the skill and determination displayed by these rising stars of the game but will also have the opportunity to spend quality time with these golfers. “Our friends have also hosted players in the past and sometimes we’d bring the guys we were hosting together to have dinner,” said John Birge. “All of them have been so incredible, smart and polite, and they’re all chasing that dream. They have a tough job; pushing and pushing for that next step, and that’s a huge commitment.”

Being a host is an enriching experience that offers a window into the life of a professional golfer. As a host, volunteers will provide a comfortable and welcoming environment, offering the players a home away from home. Whether it’s sharing a meal together, swapping stories, or supporting them on the course, volunteers will forge bonds that transcend the tournament itself. “Our friends hosted Kyle Westmoreland, who got his PGA card, and to sit and listen to his stories and get to know his story was incredibly enriching,” said John Birge.

If volunteers are interested in hosting a golfer for the Pinnacle Bank Championship, we encourage them to visit our website or contact our Player Relations Director, Kim Zillig.

“You will meet incredible young people who have such a strong work ethic and are great role models. The odds are stacked against them, and they fight tooth and nail to make that next step professionally. It’s just been a great experience for my friends and family,” said John Birge.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship’s Impact on Local Charities

The Pinnacle Bank Championship continues its tradition of positively impacting multiple charities and nonprofits within the region

Over the past few years, the Pinnacle Bank Championship has contributed over $620,000 to local charities in and surrounding the Omaha area.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship, Omaha’s premier golf event, has once again demonstrated its commitment to giving back to the community, showcasing how sports can be a powerful catalyst for positive change. The tournament, held at The Club at Indian Creek, has successfully impacted numerous charities and made a significant difference in the lives of those in need throughout Omaha, Nebraska.

Since its inception, the Pinnacle Bank Championship has consistently focused on creating a platform that not only showcases exceptional golf talent but also serves as a force for good. The event has been instrumental in generating substantial support for local charities, enabling them to continue their vital work in the community.

One of the beneficiaries of this support is The First Tee of Omaha, a youth development program that supports the youth of Omaha and teaches long-lasting life lessons through the game of golf. The nonprofit youth development organization helps thousands of kids in the Omaha area. Program Director Taylor Sidzyik of The First Tee of Omaha has seen firsthand how impactful the Pinnacle Bank Championship has been for the youth.

“Without Pinnacle Bank and The Pinnacle Bank Championship, these programs don’t exist. Because of people like Jessica [Brabec] and her staff, we are able to provide more awesome experiences to the kids in our program.”

When asked about the importance of the Pinnacle Bank Championship’s impact on nonprofits and charities in the region, Sidzyik said “the Pinnacle Bank Championship understands the importance of today’s youth. They help us in our efforts to impact and develop youth through the game of golf. The First Tee of Omaha, which was formerly Hogan’s Heros, has always been focused on the kids, and the Pinnacle Bank Championship supports that wholeheartedly.”

The tournament’s commitment to empowering local charities is reflected in its ongoing partnerships with several prominent nonprofit organizations. The Pinnacle Bank Championship has forged meaningful relationships with organizations such as TeamMates Mentoring Program, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Foundation, PGA REACH Foundation and more. Through these relationships, the tournament has helped amplify the missions of these organizations, enabling them to expand their reach and positively impact the lives of countless individuals.

In addition to its charitable partnerships, the Pinnacle Bank Championship actively engages the community by involving local volunteers, businesses and residents in the event. This inclusive approach fosters a sense of unity and collective responsibility toward making Omaha a better place for all.

The success of the Pinnacle Bank Championship in supporting local charities would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment and generosity of its sponsors, volunteers, players and the Omaha community at large. Their collective efforts have truly exemplified the spirit of giving back and demonstrated the transformative power of sports in creating positive change.

Pinnacle Bank Championship Looking for Volunteers

The Korn Ferry Tour’s Pinnacle Bank Championship is looking for volunteers in the Omaha area for the 7th annual event.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna is seeking volunteers for this summer’s Omaha Korn Ferry Tour stop. The Pinnacle Bank Championship will be held from August 7 to 13, 2023 at The Club at Indian Creek in Omaha, Neb.

It’s an experience past volunteers say is unlike any other.

“You get to walk with a guy in the first round and it’s up to five under par and he’s leading the tournament, or you get to walk with a guy on the second day that shoots seven and eventually he wins the tournament, seeing history, so to speak, happen right there in front of you,” said longtime volunteer Tom Laughlin.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship offers a wide array of volunteering opportunities ranging from marshals, admissions, volunteer headquarters, standard bearer, product distribution and much more.  This is a perfect opportunity for avid golf fans and those who have aspirations to get closer to the game. If that sounds like you, we encourage you to join the marshal committee. Marshals assist with the pace of play, crosswalks, quieting the crowd and much more.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to sign up through the Pinnacle Bank Championship website

Volunteers say one of the best parts of the Pinnacle Bank Championship is the opportunity to give back to the Omaha metro community.

“It’s just a way of giving back. They use different charities and so you know, one place it’ll be for kids and when you see some of them at the tournament you get to see what kind of effect it has, it’s great,” said Laughlin.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship encourages working with friends or family and will make every effort to accommodate your scheduling requests. With many different members of the greater Omaha community involved in the Pinnacle Bank Championship, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet many like-minded people. It’s a great opportunity for a wide range of ages.

“Just go with what you’re interested in, you know, at least the first couple years kind of go with what will get you out there and you can see the players and stuff like that, but we’ve always told people we can train anybody from 16 or 17 years old, up to their 60s and 70s. It’s a great way to get out in the sunshine,” said Laughlin.

Fans of golf and community members are encouraged to sign up by visiting the Pinnacle Bank Championship website to learn more about the available volunteering opportunities.

Shelton Wins 2022 Pinnacle Bank Championship

via PGATOUR.com | by Zach Dirlam

Robby Shelton carded a 6-under 65 and held off Ben Taylor, one of three 54-hole co-leaders, as he won the Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna for his second victory of the season and fourth of his career. While Shelton quietly moved atop the leaderboard with a pair of back-nine birdies, much of Sunday’s drama centered around the final three PGA TOUR cards awarded to the top 25 players on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Eligibility Points List (i.e. – The 25).

“It feels awesome to finally put a Sunday round together,” Shelton said. “It means so much. I’ve slept with the lead a couple times and almost let it slip. Coming from behind is kind of where I like to be. Just an incredible start, and hung on, putted well all week. Just a solid, solid week of golf.”

Shelton began the final round at The Club at Indian Creek two strokes off the lead and caught Taylor and one of his fellow 54-hole co-leaders, Taylor Montgomery, by the turn. An eagle at the par-5 fourth and three consecutive birdies at Nos. 6-8, moving Shelton into a tie with Montgomery at 16-under par, and one stroke ahead of Taylor.

Shelton negated a bogey at the par-4 10th with a birdie at the par-4 12th, then took the outright lead with a birdie at the par-5 15th.

One group ahead, Kevin Dougherty, who could only move inside The 25 and earn a PGA TOUR card with a victory, also reached 16-under par with three consecutive birdies at Nos. 13-15. A bogey at the par-4 16th dropped Dougherty two strokes behind Shelton, knocking him off the TOUR card bubble altogether. Playing in the final group, Taylor also birdied the par-5 15th and had playoff-forcing birdie looks on the final three holes but came up empty each time.

While Shelton finished the week with only 42 greens in regulation, nearly the worst in the field among the 65 players who made the cut, the University of Alabama alum only hit 99 putts, with just 22 of them coming in Sunday’s final round. Shelton, who plays from Wilmer, Alabama, was just the second player this season with fewer than 100 putts across 72 holes. The other player to accomplish the feat was Norman Xiong, who set a Korn Ferry Tour record with just 94 putts in his victory at the Wichita Open Benefitting KU Wichita Pediatrics.

“It saved me,” Shelton said of his putter. “The greens were perfect, and I had a lot of long putts made, and I made every putt that I needed to.”

Shelton had already secured a PGA TOUR card prior to this week, a product of his victory at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX two months ago. Following the victory earlier this season, his first since a pair of wins in 2019, Shelton talked in depth about how a swing change sent him down a rabbit hole he only re-emerged from earlier this year. The tinkering came after Shelton made the second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs as a rookie in 2020. Last season on TOUR, Shelton finished No. 167 in the FedExCup Standings, relegating him to the Korn Ferry Tour.

Now Shelton enters the three-event Korn Ferry Tour Finals with a chance at the No. 1 ranking, which comes with fully exempt status next season on TOUR and berths in the 2023 PLAYERS Championship and U.S. Open.

“I think then I was just young and playing some good golf, but now I can put it together four days in a row for a string of tournaments, which is huge for me,” Shelton said. “I’ve been a little inconsistent the past few years, and just to be able to do this day in and day out, it means a lot.”

Sunday’s main drama involved a handful of players attempting to either stay inside The 25, or play their way into it and knock out a fellow competitor.

Kevin Roy bounced back from a 2-over 73 in the third round with a 3-under 68 in the final round, holding on to the No. 24 spot on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Eligibility Points List despite a three-putt bogey from off the back of the 18th green.

Vincent Norrman erased a double bogey at the par-3 fifth with birdies at Nos. 4, 6, and 7. An even-par 35 back nine left him in the clubhouse awaiting his fate. Norrman eventually finished No. 23, one point ahead of Roy and two points clear of Anders Albertson, who held on for the final spot in The 25 despite a missed cut earlier this week.

Brandon Harkins made a furious rally after back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 10 and 11 and a double bogey at the par-3 13th left him 2-over par for the day. Harkins needed a strong finish for any chance at a return to the PGA TOUR. A birdie at the par-4 14th and eagle at the par-5 15th gave him a puncher’s chance, but three consecutive pars to finish, with No. 18 being of the up-and-down variety, left him at No. 26, nine points behind Albertson.

T.J. Vogel and Will Gordon, both in need of high finishes to knock out Albertson, made charges up the leaderboard throughout their rounds but were seemingly always one stroke out of the position they needed.

Gordon, Harkins, and Vogel, along with the rest of the group who finished Nos. 26-75 on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Eligibility Points List, have another chance at PGA TOUR cards in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, which begin Thursday at the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Chevron.

The 50 Korn Ferry Tour players who were unable to earn PGA TOUR cards via the regular season will compete against players who finished Nos. 126-200 in the 2021-22 FedExCup Standings, along with players who earned enough non-member FedExCup points to finish between Nos. 126-200. There are once again 25 TOUR cards available via the Finals. The 25 TOUR-bound members from the regular season will keep their points and compete against one another for positioning within the priority ranking, which determines entry to PGA TOUR events.

Through the five years of the Championship, the event and its partner agencies have given more than $450,000 to area charities.

“Children’s is grateful to be chosen as the charity beneficiary of this year’s Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna.
